The Association of Podiatry invites you to the fourth edition of the National Congress in Podiatry, with international participation, which will take place during October 12-15, 2021, at Grand Hotel Italia, in Cluj-Napoca. This year's edition will be a very special one, because it will take place in the context of the Association of Podiatry being accepted in the International Federation of Podiatrists (FIP-IFP). Moreover, it's the only such event in Central and Eastern Europe. Thus, Romania sets the trend in podiatry, in this region.

The Congress in Podiatry 2021 is the fourth multidisciplinary congress, with international participation, in the field of podiatry, of foot disorders in general, as well as of the diabetic foot, in particular. This scientific manifestation brings together healthcare professionals from different specialties, who deal with the care of people with foot problems in general and, in particular, with people with diabetes.

Diabetes is a condition that can lead to serious medical complications, such as diabetic neuropathy and diabetic foot. To reduce the risk of complications, diabetologists support the importance of effective disease control, and in order to prevent amputation in people with diabetes, they support the need to introduce a podiatrist into a multidisciplinary team. The podiatrist is the specialist who takes care of the health of the feet from prevention and diagnosis to the actual treatment of foot disorders and their recovery.

From the data of the International Diabetes Federation, by including the podiatrist in the team of specialists who care for both the diabetic foot and the foot with other conditions, the number of amputations in the lower limbs could be reduced by up to 85%. Romanian statistics show that, annually, more than 5,000 amputations are made among patients with diabetes. The person with diabetes who has an amputated leg practically becomes a medically and socially assisted person. An amputated leg actually means serious consequences for both the person with diabetes and society which needs to find solutions to integrate this person.

The conferences, presentations and debates facilitated during the Congress in Podiatry 2021 are addressed to the physicians of the following specialties: diabetes, general surgery and vascular surgery, dermatology, orthopedics, neurology, rheumatology, internal medicine, sports medicine, and family medicine. The event is also aimed at nurses and physiotherapists, with the aim of highlighting the importance of the multidisciplinary team in addressing the pathologies of the foot and, especially, in reducing the number of amputations.

Internationally renowned lecturers in the field of podiatry, specialists in the diabetic foot, the foot in sports, children, the elderly, will present the news in the field and exchange good practices for the benefit of the people in medical care. The scientific program of the Congress is designed for a wide range of specialists involved in diagnosing and treating foot problems.

During these three days, the participants will take part in conferences followed by discussion panels, as well as case presentations dedicated to the various foot pathologies.
